I’m passionate about bookkeeping, accounting and taxation planning. I love showing people how numbers work so they get better at managing their taxes and planning ahead. So after more than 20 years working in the corporate sector and being a director of several companies and a property investor, I established Fortiz Accountants to help business owners, particularly new migrants and non-Australian resident investors, take their investment or businesses to the next level.

With extensive experience in senior finance and management roles in hotels, B&Bs, student accommodation, retail, and food and beverage (F&B) businesses, I’ve become an expert in yield management, ADR analysis, RevPAR, food costing and determining break-even costs. And we’re very proud of the outcomes we’ve achieved as business consultants – preparing sound projection reports with multiple scenarios to enable investors to proceed with multi-million-dollar investments.

I have lived in Melbourne for 20 years and love building community networks, where I help organise fun events that bring people together. So, when I’m not working on client accounts, I volunteer as Treasurer for Muhibbah Community Inc., an incorporated not-for-profit association. I’m also the Administrator of the Malaysians in Business Melbourne Facebook group.

Accountant
Bachelor of Business (Accounting), RMIT
CPA (Australia), CA (Malaysia)

I have spent my entire career working in taxation including corporate tax compliance and tax advisory. I started my career in Malaysia as a tax consultant in KPMG, where I rose steadily to become Tax Manager, Senior Tax Manager and eventually, Tax Director. I also worked as a Tax Manager for Dairy Farm Group of Companies and Malaysian Institute of Taxation as Technical Director.

I am meticulous and leave no stone unturned. I love working through raw data, making sense of it all and turning these into clear and concise tax returns. Having lived in several different countries, I have been exposed to various cultures and practices. I spend my free time volunteering as a Treasurer for the Melbourne Figure Skating Club Inc., scrapbooking, baking, reading and supporting my children in their ice-skating practices and competitions.

BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance – Middlesex University, UK
Professional Level Certificate - Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK
Enrolled Tax Agent (US)
Diploma in Human Resources Management – Swinburne University of Technology

I have had the opportunity of working with three of the Big Fours International Accounting Firms across three different countries in my entire career span before migrating to Melbourne. I started off as a corporate tax consultant with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in Malaysia before moving on to my next role in Human Capital, PricewaterhouseCoopers in Singapore where I was exposed to individual income taxation. A few years later, I took a leap of faith by relocating to Shanghai and landed with a role in Human Capital – Global Mobility, Ernst & Young Shanghai.

I have exceptional client engagement skills and the ability to manage and work collaboratively with various stakeholders. My previous client's portfolio was mostly made up of investment banks and global corporations where I handled the individual income taxation for their expatriates. In addition, I was also managing the largest engagement for the outbound population (i.e. Chinese individuals working overseas) for Ernst & Young Shanghai.

I possess excellent coordination and organizational skills as a result of having to manage global client engagements where conference calls, email correspondence and assignees tracking movements update with various offices (e.g. Ernst & Young USA and Australia) is not uncommon.

Having had the exposure of working in different countries and dealing with individuals from different backgrounds as well as respective government authorities, I am able to adapt well to any new changes that come along.

I enjoy baking when not having to work or ferry the kids around for their activities
